5 Easy Ways to Update Your Kitchen

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in most homes. It’s a place where family and friends tend to gather during parties as meals, appetizers, and more are prepared. But even if you don’t entertain often, your kitchen is still likely an important part of your home.

If you ask homeowners which part of their home they’d most like to remodel or redesign, most will say their kitchen. But even if you can’t afford an entire kitchen remodel, there are several design elements you can update to give your kitchen a new look and feel.

Here are 5 easy ways to update the design of your kitchen.

1. Update Cabinet Doors

Even if you don’t want to shell out for all new cabinets, you may be able to update just the doors of your existing kitchen cabinets. Doors come off at the hinges and new ones can be put on easily. This is a good option as long as the sides of your cabinets don’t show or closely match in color to the new doors you select.

2. Paint and Hardware

Another option to update your cabinets is to give them a coat of paint. White or cream cabinets are a trend in Euro-inspired kitchens in condos, townhomes, and single family homes alike. You can also update your hardware with new knobs or pulls. These updates are easy to complete and are also fairly inexpensive.

3. Install a Backsplash

Adding a mosaic tile or subway tile backsplash will make your kitchen look up-to-date and fancy. The best part is many of these backsplashes are easy to install yourself with peel and stick tiles from home improvement stores.

4. Update Facets and Light Fixtures

Changing out your light fixtures and facets may be a little more complicated, but it’s still an update most homeowners can easily tackle themselves. Just make sure to turn off the electricity to wires or shut off the water before taking off your current light fixture or facet.

5. Add an Island

This may sound like an expensive and time consuming project, but you could opt for a rolling island instead of a large stationary island in your kitchen. A rolling island is as simple as picking one out at the store and bringing it home. But if you want more of a project, you could get creative and make one out of an old filing cabinet unit by adding wheels and a countertop, or another square cabinet or piece of furniture.

Because you use your kitchen every day, it should be a space you enjoy spending time in, not drab, dreary, and outdated. If you aren’t satisfied with the look of your current kitchen, give it a facelift with some of these easy kitchen updates.
