Big living rooms always have echo problem, so choosing right kind of upholstery and carpets is essential. Add carpets in evry functional area, hang curtains, add baskets for more texture and sound absorption and accessories to help soften the spaces.  Double layered curtains also work wonders for acoustics, with a first layer being a sheer curtain and the second layer being a silk or rich cotton .
